Lakhimpur Cancer Centre Organises Breast Cancer Awareness Programmes

Lakhimpur Cancer Centre organised awareness programmes to extend support to people affected with breast cancer and to create awareness on prevention and early detection on the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness month in October. An awareness programme was organized in collaboration with Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) at Boginadi Development Block. A walkathon was organized which witnessed huge participation including CDPO Lakhimpur, CDPO Telahi, Self-Help Groups, Village Organizations and ACCF members. Various activities were also organised at Niz laluk, Koronabari development block. In the event, breast cancer survivor Dr Prof. Mira Das (Lakhimpur Girls College - Hindi Department) spoke on the occasion and shared her experience - signs and symptoms and encouraged to never give up and fight back breast cancer. People participated in large numbers and had benefitted from the awareness programmes. Breast Cancer is curable, if detected early. To facilitate early diagnosis, Assam Cancer Care Foundation hospitals provided free mammography for women above 45 years in the month of October. Mammography facility is available at affordable rates in all seven ACCF hospitals at Dibrugarh, Barpeta, Jorhat, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, Darrang, and Kokrajhar.
