Lakhimpur Facility Observes World Cancer Day 2023

28 February 2023

World Cancer Day is observed worldwide on February 4 every year to raise awareness for a cancer-free society. Aligned with the theme for this year – Close the Care Gap, Lakhimpur Cancer Centre organised various events in collaboration with National Health Mission, National Service Scheme, and National Cadet Corps in North Lakhimpur. The objective of the event was to raise cancer awareness, and to educate people about warning signs and precautions of the disease. The event was attended by Dr Biman Chandra Chetia – Principal, Lakhimpur College; Ranjan Bora (Academic) and Banikant Konwar (Administrative) – Vice-Principals; Bipul Saikia – NSS Coordinator; Dr Jatin Medak; Dr Tarun Kumar Deuri; Dr Dhiren Saikia – Faculties; students of the college and personnel from the Lakhimpur facility. A health camp was also organised by the District Health Society in collaboration with the Lakhimpur Cancer Centre to provide comprehensive healthcare services. Dr Jagdish Goswami - District Tuberculosis and AIDS Officer, spoke on causes of cancer, its prevention, and the facilities available at the Lakhimpur Cancer Centre. He said, “cancer cases are on the rise mostly due to consumption of tobacco, unchecked and constant exposure to industrial and vehicle pollution etc.” He also added that practicing simple habits like adequate sleep, intake of nutritious diet, and regular physical exercise can minimize the threat. This was followed by an inspiring testimony by Mira Das, Associate Professor - Hindi Department, Lakhimpur Girl's College. Ms Das – who is a cancer survivor - delivered an insightful speech and encouraged the participants to maintain a healthy lifestyle by taking necessary precautions. The event was a great success, with over 400 participants making a crucial impact in raising cancer awareness and motivating people to combat the disease fearlessly. The highlight of the event was a cancer awareness rally by the students of North Lakhimpur College, which was joined by the teachers and staff of Lakhimpur College, staff of NHM, and Lakhimpur Cancer Centre. Regular check-ups, leading a healthy lifestyle, and spreading awareness about cancer can make a significant difference. The Lakhimpur Cancer Centre's efforts to spread awareness about cancer and provide medical facilities are an excellent example of how institutions can work together to bring about a positive change.
